Receive a Refund for Your Children’s Glasses and Lenses
by Optoplus / October 2019
One in four school-aged children live with a vision problem, the Mieux voir pour réussir initiative – put in place by the Quebec government – arrived just in time. This program provides financial assistance for the purchase of glasses and lenses for children under the age of 18. Renewable every 2 years, a fixed refund of $250 per child is offered regardless of the purchase price.
Good to know: all purchases made on or after September 1, 2019 are eligible for a refund. Reimbursement is granted only for the purchase of professional prescription glasses or contact lenses intended to correct vision.
Who is this program for? All children are eligible for the program if they meet the following 3 conditions:
● Be under the age of 18 on the date of purchase (glasses or contact lenses).
● Has a valid Health Insurance Card.
● Has received a prescription for corrective glasses or contact lenses during a routine eye exam conducted by an authorized optometrist or ophthalmologist.
Keep in mind, eye exam fees for children under the age of 18 are covered by the Régime d’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ). All parents qualify for the refund, whether or not they have private insurance. Visit the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ) Website for information on the reimbursement process.
